Ode to a Christmas Possum
Ode to a Christmas
Possum
by Margaret Holt
December 23,2014
A Christmas Possum had moved into our garage.
Deciding it’s the best holiday place to lodge.
Or maybe he’s a she with a manger plan.
Her little pouch their crib beneath our van.
Dad tried to move her out into the night.
But our address is where they’ve set their sight.
The smell of cookies drifts into her nose.
And playing possum is the way she’ll pose.
Shouting, I like it here with Jaiden and Alex.
Patiently waiting for Santa and FedEx.
So let me be merry, cozy, and warm
Away from mean hawks, cats and more harm.
For your garage lodge is where I’ll delight.
Merry Christmas to all on this Galloway night.
