Summer Journal 2012, August 2nd

Our car has been taken to Polygoros for the necessary inspection before it is officially transferred to Stell.  He drove it to the village so the man who handles this can take it through the process.  Kostas and Foras brought him back to the house as they were going onto Gomati to buy some tsiparo.  He brought back some cheese and cream bougatsa for breakfast, a change from my daily tomato, feta, and olive meal to the start the day.  While we read and have our coffee, we watch to see how many swallows will fly onto the dead little mimosa tree in the front yard.  The most we have counted so far is 13:

I think this activity is something akin to what our niece, Kate Holt, calls "watching traffic."

Yesterday, I had quite a brush-up with my nephew, Ioannis, but it isn't the first time, and I imagine he will keep his distance from me for the remains of the summer.  He has always been very jealous of his Uncle, and several years ago, he smarted off to me that Stellios doesn't like him.  I explained to him that this was not true.  Instead I said your Uncle doesn't pay the least bit of attention to you.  This time he sat with us and Anya and Helen, and then when we were leaving aside he told me that last year he had been seated with them, and Michael Anya's father, and that he got stuck with the tab and it was something like 70 Euros.  He's moaned to Stell about this twice when I wasn't here, but this was the first time for me.  I suggested to him that he just shouldn't sit with us if he fears getting stuck with the bill, and he proceeded to light into the German "issue" and then wanted to take me on about some American policy, and finally he pissed me off by saying that I pay too much attention to my husband's ideas.  He was getting in my face so I got in his.   Then I told Anya and Helen about his frustration over the 70 Euro, so today Anya is going to have the waiter take him a glass of ouzo and an envelope with the 70 Euros.  That should silence him and hopefully cause him to stop fretting about his 70 Euros.

Stell's been chasing cows, but now he really wants to check his email.  More later.   Love, MCF

Here's Foras messing with my water weights:
