Summer Journal 2012, August 16

When sometimes someone grumbles about public service or conditions in Greece, Stell will respond, "We aren't in Kansas, Toto."  Yesterday he wanted to point out illegal parking that is most all parking.  Here is a car parked next to a "no parking" sign next to Cafe Dam.  Yes, Cafe Dam is the name of the coffee shop.  Just ask Nic.

Yesterday was action packed for Alexander.  A little girl name Katerina (who is three) tried to flirt with him at Sultana's. She was particularly concerned about all the scrapes on his knees and elbows.

All in all it was a hard day for Alexander.  His parents left him to go on a date, and he got up from the bed to find himself abandoned by his mother.  He cried into the dark night with Jaiden, and his grandparents standing by, waiting for his battery to run low.  When he was reduced to infrequent sobs, his YaYa (moi) lifted him into bed with Jaiden and herself.  He was silent, but he sat with his back to us for about 15 minutes truly I think trying to grasp his heartbreak. Finally he leaned over and fell into a deep sleep (I imagine dreaming of his Mother). This morning he seems to have no recollection of the evening.

We will go swimming soon and then we have a party for a woman named Mary tonight at the Touristico Restaurant.

Paris has replaced all the old screens - what a difference this makes.  I've had too many cups of coffee this morning!  Paris and Stell keep pouring me a cup.  I'll probably look like a commercial for Jittery Joes in a few minutes.

All's well.  Alex has his mother back, Jaiden had a good overnight at her cousins, and another Maria's Day has come and gone.  If only we could get the locals to stop the illegal parking.
