Summer Journal 2012, August 5

Today marks the beginning of our last month in Greece for this summer.  We return to the U.S. on September 5.  I'm glad a month remains because I still have lots of good fat books to read.  I'll finish Cole Campbell's essays this morning and pick up where I left off in the Warmth of Other Suns.  I started reading it aloud to Apisata while we were waiting at the Motor Vehicle place for her to take her written driver's test.

You don't have to bring books if you come to visit.  We have plenty - a good small library (many books supplied by Addie).  Mysteries, thrillers, travel, essays, novels, etc.  Here's a photo of Stell at our desk and a look at our library:

Swimming has been perfect every day and I'm hoping the good weather pattern continues for Alexander and Jaiden.  I made everyones' beds this morning.  I'm so glad Stell had the inside of the house repainted and all the floors resanded and stained.  If you've been here in the past, you wouldn't believe the difference.  Also we bought a little two pot burner, so we can actually do a little more cooking.

Unfortunately the famous little Greek puppet show was last night, so Alexander and Jaiden won't be able to see it.  However, I have people saving the posters for me, so I can frame them when I'm back in the States.  This is what they look like:

I've learned to tell the wait staff in the ouzeries and restaurants to save the posters for me when the events end.  I have some beautiful posters from the Euripides' production as well.

I'm going to suggest to Jill Severn at the Russell Library that we get copies of Cole's book for everyone on our steering committee.  I think everyone should read the chapter (at least) on Journalism and Public Knowledge.

My wish is that if you reading this, you are having a tremendous day.  I hope you have as Addison wrote, someone to love, good work to do, and something you are looking forward to.   MCF
